Pregnancy Personal Care Industry Unites to Benefit The What to Expect Foundation
November 17, 2003,
Potomac, MD: The What to Expect Foundation is the beneficiary
of the first-ever alliance of Pregnancy and New Mother Personal Care Manufacturers.
This social-marketing effort is being by Julia Beck, Founder
of Forty Weeks, LLC. Announced in August, the “Gift of Giving”
program joins Forty Weeks, Bella Essentials, Mustela, Selph, Belli,
Motherlove, and Muti Mama in a holiday promotion
to raise much needed funds and awareness for The What to Expect Foundation
(www.whattoexpect.org).
The
What to Expect Foundation
takes its name from the best-selling What to Expect pregnancy and parenting
series, which has helped over 21 million families from pregnancy through
their child's toddler years. But as many people as those books have helped,
they’ve missed many more – parents living in poverty, who
can neither afford, nor perhaps read those books. Appropriate prenatal
educational materials for low-income moms AND literacy training to help
women learn to read could affect both the cycle of infant mortality and
illiteracy. And thus, the birth of The What To Expect Foundation
and the delivery of a book, a program, and a new paradigm – prenatal
health literacy.
“The
Gift of Giving” sends a percentage of each item purchased from these
well regarded, pre- and post-natal personal care lines to a low-income,
pregnant woman in need via The What to Expect Foundation.
By purchasing a gift for a special someone or a treat for you this holiday
season, consumers are contributing directly to at-risk pregnant women
across the country. The gift is truly from one mother to another. All
featured products can be found and purchased at on-line gift boutique
Blueberry Babies (www.blueberrybabies.com).
The promotion will run October 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003.
“The
Foundation is so grateful for the enthusiasm and efforts of these companies.
Their willingness to link their consumers to the mission of The
What to Expect Foundation speaks volumes to their deep concern
and commitment. But, it also reminds us all that helping can be easy and
very rewarding,” adds Foundation executive director Lisa Bernstein.
“I see this
as the perfect holiday program – each item sold is really making
a difference in the lives of two women, the one who receives a Forty Weeks
product and the one whose quality of pre-natal health care will be improved
by the contribution made to the Foundation. It is so simple to help -
The Gift of Giving is what the holiday season is really all about,”
says Forty Weeks founder Julia Beck.
Each of the participating
lines has a variety of items ideal for holiday giving. From soothing oils
and morning sickness remedies to nurturing extracts and calming music,
there is a gift for every expectant woman or new mother. Many of the lines
include gift sets as well.
